Where the Committee Went Wrong

Below are the committee’s rankings from 1-68 compared to my 1-68.  My rank is in parentheses.  Just a few comments on some of the head-scratching seeding decisions by the committee.

Dayton – The committee had the Flyers as the last team in, and 15 spots below my rankings. Surprising that they were 18 spots below a team they beat on the road, and almost beat again today.

Utah – While the committee loves the Utes, I absolutely love that they are matched up with Stone Cold.  This is not the #17 team in the country.

Louisville/Georgetown – Both teams surprisingly are 4 seeds.  Georgetown/Providence/Butler/Xavier are pretty much the same team to me, and I seeded them accordingly.  The committee did not.  Regarding Louisville, it appears that committee did not factor in Chris Jones’ absence in this seed. Louisville is not the #15 team in the country without him.

Northern Iowa/Wichita State – I should have known better.  A couple weeks back I had both teams as 4 seeds, and I definitely think these teams are just as good as Louisville and Georgetown.  But the committee clearly hates mid-majors.

Utah/Oregon – I have to come back to Utah, just to complain about Utah at 17 and Oregon at 30.  Oregon was 2-0 against Utah, and here are their resumes. You decide.

Utah 24-8; Top 50: 3-7, Top 100: 7-7; RPI: 19, SOS: 36

Oregon 25-9; Top 50: 3-5, Top 100: 9-7, RPI: 27, SOS: 41

UCLA – I’m shocked they were put in, but I actually am happy that Colorado State and Temple didn’t make it.  UCLA definitely meets the eye test, and what does the most scrutinized team almost always do?  Win at least one game, and many times more.
