1-68: February 7

The first full bracket will be released a month before Selection Sunday.  For now, you just get the list.

1 Seeds

1. Oklahoma (19-3) – Well, Buddy lost to KSU.  OU is still #1 because no one in their right mind can put Nova ahead of them after the beating OU gave them early.
2. Villanova (20-3) – Clear #2 right now.
3. Xavier (21-2) – Tied for the best record in the country with UALR.  Two tricky road games this week at Creighton and Butler.
4. Maryland (21-3) – Why do they play Bowie State on Tuesday?  Tribute to this guy maybe…

2 Seeds

5. UNC (19-4) – Tough week for the Heels.
6. Iowa (19-4) – The Hawkeyes are old…and good.
7. Michigan State (20-4) – Valentine looks back to normal which is good for Tommy.
8. W. Virginia (19-4) – Maybe the team of the week as they won at ISU and handled Baylor.

3 Seeds

9. Kansas (19-4) – Let’s see what happens in Norman on Saturday.
10. Virginia (19-4) – Quietly getting on a roll.  Dominated Pitt on Saturday.
11. Oregon (20-4) – Class of the Pac 12…and it’s not close.
12. Miami (18-4) – Larranaga keeps finding players to exceed expectations.  Ja’Quan Newton is darn good.

4 Seeds

13. Texas A&M (18-5) – If WVU was the team of the week, the Aggies were the opposite.
14. Iowa State (17-6) – Survived at Oklahoma State to avoid a disastrous week.
15. Dayton (19-3) – When do the Flyers play someone good again?  RPI at #12.
16. Texas (16-7) – Shaka just keeps piling up impressive wins and the Longhorns are skyrocketing up the rankings.

5 Seeds

17. USC (18-5) – They certainly haven’t faded yet.
18. Arizona (19-5) – Trier is back, and expect the Cats to turn it on.
19. Kentucky (17-6) – Blew out Florida after losing at Rocky Top.
20. S. Carolina (20-3) – Impressive win at A&M after a double-digit loss to…Georgia?

6 Seeds

21. Indiana (19-5)
– Bad, bad loss to Penn State.
22. Baylor (17-6) – Losses to Texas and WVU drop the Bears a couple lines.
23. Providence (18-6) – Kris Dunn continues to be Krisappointing.
24. Notre Dame (16-7) – Win over UNC was huge as the next five will be very tough. 3-2 would be excellent.

7 Seeds

25. Purdue (19-5) – See January commentary about Purdue’s guard play.
26. Pittsburgh (17-5) – Since blowing up at ND, they have really struggled on offense.
27. Duke (17-6) – Let’s see what they do with Louisville tomorrow.
28. Saint Mary’s (19-3) – Loss at BYU doesn’t hurt them very much.  At Duke West on 2/20.

8 Seeds

29. Seton Hall (17-6) – Two more wins for the Pirates.  Willard has a very good team.
30. Wichita State (17-6)
– Sluggish performance at Illinois State.  Bilas said they could win it all.  Could you imagine if Purdue’s bigs were on Wichita?
31. LSU (15-8) – Now in first place in the SEC, which tells you a lot about this conference.
32. Florida (15-8) – The Gators were led to the woodshed by Jamal Murray.

9 Seeds

33. Valparaiso (20-4) – Crusaders are in position for an at-large, if needed. Oakland comes to town on 2/19.
34. Monmouth (19-5) – See above.  Need to avoid bad losses.
35. Michigan (17-7) – Manhandled at home by IU and MSU.  Where is LeVert?
36. Utah (17-7) – Leaving Oregon with two Ls.  They just aren’t good.

10 Seeds
37. Butler (16-7) – Seem to have righted the ship a bit.  Big chance Saturday vs. Xavier to get a marquee win.
38. G. Washington (18-5) – Huge win at VCU solidifies the spot in the field for now.
39. VCU (17-6) – Still tied atop the A10 after the loss to GW.
40. Syracuse (16-8) – Boeheim doesn’t have a deep team, but the starters are pretty solid.

11 Seeds

41. Colorado (17-7) – Also leaving Oregon with two Ls.
42. California (15-8) – Really thought Cal was going to be good instead of just average.
43. Chattanooga (21-3, Southern Champ) – There are some impressive mid-major records.  Remember, they won at Dayton.
44. Oregon State (14-8) – Sweep of Utah and Colorado gives them five RPI Top 50 wins.  In for now.

12 Seeds

45. Cincinnati (17-7) – Fell into the Josh Pastner trap.  The American could be a one-bid league.
46. Washington (15-8) – Tough loss to Zona, which could’ve moved them out of play-in game territory.
47. St. Joseph’s (19-4) – Loss at home to the Bonnies puts them squarely on the bubble.
48. Clemson (14-9) – Good at home, not so good on the road.  Another chance for a quality win tomorrow against ND.  RPI is horrible, but they have six Top 50 wins (five at home).
49. Florida State (16-7) – Though Wake is falling apart, a 20 point win in Winston-Salem slides them in the field for now.
50. San Diego St. (18-6, MWC Champ) – Running away with the MWC.

13 Seeds

51. Arkansas-Little Rock (21-2, Sun Belt Champ) – Have given up 92 points total in the last two games.  Impressive.
52. Hawaii (18-3, Big West Champ) – Remember, they played OU tough.
53. Stony Brook (19-4, America East Champ) – Warney and the boys are taking care of business in the America East.
54. UAB (20-4, Conf USA Champ) – Solid team.  Watch out for Louisiana Tech.

14 Seeds

55. Bill & Mary (17-6, CAA Champ) – In 2nd in a very competitive CAA.
56. Akron (19-4, MAC Champ) – Another solid mid-major.
57. South Dakota State (19-5, Summit Champ) – Did something earlier that Wichita couldn’t…win at Illinois State.
58. Belmont (17-8, OVC Champ) – Now tied with Tennessee Tech after dropping one to directional Kentucky.

15 Seeds

59. Yale (15-5, Ivy Champ) – Undefeated in the Ivy.
60. N. Florida (18-8, Atlantic Sun Champ) – Two losses for the Ospreys this week but still tied at the top.
61. Stephen F. Austin (16-5, Southland Champ) – Undefeated in the Southland.  STONE COLD!
62. New Mexico St. (16-8, WAC Champ) – Re: Grand Canyon, who is 20-4…Someone explain to me why teams that come in from D-II aren’t immediately eligible for the tournament.

16 Seeds

63. UNC Asheville (17-8, Big South Champ) – New leader in the Big South as High Point continues to struggle.
64. Bucknell (13-10, Patriot Champ) – Three game lead in the Patriot.
65. Weber State (16-7, Big Sky Champ) – Maybe they can sneak Lillard back for the tourney…
66. Hampton (13-9, MEAC Champ) – Tied atop the MEAC with S. Carolina State.
67. Wagner (15-8, NEC Champ) – I’m out of commentary.
68. Southern (16-7, SWAC Champ) – In second place to 10-12 Texas Southern.
